About the Army Hearing Program
Our mission is to maximize hearing and communication thus contributing to survivability, lethality, mission effectiveness and quality of life through four distinct yet overlapping pillars: Hearing Readiness, Clinical Hearing Services, Operational Hearing Services and Hearing Conservation.

Our vision is to optimize Soldier readiness and survivability through hearing health education, appropriately fitted hearing protection devices (HPDs) and annual monitoring audiometry testing for:
  • All Soldiers in all Compos and any MOS assigned to USAREUR.
  • All noise exposed DA civilians and Local Nationals who are assigned to USAREUR and enrolled in the OSHA model based Hearing Conservation Program which falls under the purview of the Occupational Health section at PHCE.
DoD Hearing Technician Certification

Target Audience: This training is available to those who use the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Hearing Conservation (DOEHRS-HC) test software as part of their military or DoD civilian job requirements.

Description: This 40-hr training course is for individuals who have never been certified to perform hearing tests (and other hearing readiness-related tasks) or for those technicians whose certification is about to expire (certification is good for 5 years).

For personnel assigned in the Bavaria region, there is an additional 40-hour requirement of hands-on clinical training at the Vilseck or Grafenwöhr clinic to gain direct patient care experience to feel confident operating the hearing booth independently.

All courses have been approved by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC). The CAOHC national certification examination will be administered at the conclusion of the course for those individuals wishing to obtain the optional civilian CAOHC certification. There is NO charge for the course, however, there is a $45-$75 fee payable to CAOHC for those opting to take the national certification examination.

Courses Dates are determined based on need and must be coordinated via our office.
